Dementia care

Over the years CLS has developed specialist expertise in the field of dementia care, and pioneered dedicated dementia households as specialist wings at certain of our care homes.

In these households, specially trained care teams work hard to enable residents to maximise their remaining skills, abilities and interests.

Our approach addresses the needs of the 'whole person' from a physical, social and emotional perspective. Indeed, a key principle is that dementia care is not about simply 'coping' with the symptoms, but creating the right environment to help alleviate symptoms and enhance the person’s quality of life.

We also carefully consider the design of the accommodation to compensate for disability, maximise independence and support staff in the delivery of care. For example, doors are colour coded (red for bedroom doors and yellow for bathroom doors) to make the environment easier to negotiate.
