Popular donkey, Molly, visited another CLS Care Home this month. Residents at Westy Hall in Latchford, Warrington, were delighted to see the gentle natured animal taking a stroll inside their home. Molly is quickly becoming a much-loved guest among CLS homes, having already visited The Hawthorns in Wilmslow.
The special visit was arranged through the Elisabeth Svendsen Trust, which provides therapy visits to older people as well as therapy riding for children with special needs. The ‘therapy’ donkeys are all cared for at the Donkey Sanctuary, a connected charity, and great care is taken in their selection - they must be healthy, placid, obedient, and above all, they must enjoy human company.
Home Manager, Janice Johnson comments: “The use of animals as a form of therapy is widely recognised in care circles for the wonderful benefits it can bring. Animals and pets have a special ability to boost morale – they provide companionship and bring happiness and laughter. It we all enjoyed having Molly here and seeing her walking around our home. She is our most unusual guest so far."
