100 Years Young

Young at heart, Gladys Woodward celebrated her 100th birthday at CLS Care Home, New Milton House in Alsager with a day of pampering, music, dancing and laughter with family and friends.

Dee Astbury, Home Services Manager at New Milton House, comments: “Gladys is the life and soul of the place; she takes part in all the activities at the home, and loves to sing and dance. She enjoys looking after her appearance and is always the first in line for our hairdresser who visits the home every week.”

Gladys has lived at the CLS home since November 2003. Ensuring Gladys’s 100th birthday was truly an event to remember, staff arranged a day full of treats. Firstly, Gladys enjoyed a morning of pampering in preparation for her birthday party, and also welcomed some special guests from Excalibur Primary School. The young pupils sang Happy Birthday and quizzed Gladys about the past 100 years.

Gladys, who used to sing in a church choir, sang one of her favourite songs, Count your Blessings, to entertain guests at her birthday party.

When asked what her secret to long life and good health was, Gladys said: “Enjoyment and laughter.”

To maintain her youthful glow, Gladys also swears by Pond’s Cold Cream face products. Indeed, Gladys who used work in the local pottery industry as Lithographer and as a factory worker during the war, says that she would loved to have been a shop assistant, selling ladies’ beauty products.
